They serve a specific drainage function. “You can use a solid spoon instead.” You can, but you will end up transferring unwanted liquid along with the food. “All slotted spoons drain equally.” They do not. Slot width, shape, and angle affect drainage speed and food retention. “The slots weaken the spoon.” Modern slotted spoons are engineered to maintain structural strength despite the openings.
